Metal stamping is a widely used forming process in manufacturing industry, which uses molds to apply external force to metal sheets, strips, tubes and profiles, etc., to produce plastic deformation or separation, so as to obtain parts or products of the desired shape and size. The following is a detailed introduction to metal stamping:
Basic Principle of Metal Stamping
The basic principle of metal stamping is to use a die and punch to exert pressure on a metal sheet to produce plastic deformation. In the stamping process, the die and the press work together to place the sheet metal on the die, and then the punch is pressed into the die by the punching force of the press to deform the sheet metal. The deformed sheet metal is then cut or molded according to the shape and size of the die, resulting in the desired part or product.
Main types of metal stamping
Metal stamping can be categorized according to different classification criteria, and the following are some of the main types:
Classification by process characteristics:
Separation process: such as dropping, punching, trimming, cutting, profiling, trimming, etc. It is mainly used to separate metal sheets into different shapes and sizes.
Forming process: such as bending, deep drawing, flanging, expanding, shrinking, spinning, etc., mainly used to form the metal sheet into the required shape and size.
According to the mold structure classification:
Single process die: in a working stroke only complete a stamping process of the mold.
Composite die: in a stroke of the press, in the same station at the same time to complete two or more than two stamping process of the mold.
Progressive die (also known as continuous die): in the processing of stamped parts, the die is equipped with a number of stations, in a working stroke, according to a certain order in the same set of molds on the different stations to complete two or more stamping processes one by one mold.
